Becoming new grandparents, with the
addition of five grandchildren in two years, persuaded these homeowners to
contact Maxson Remodeling with their "dream" remodel wishes. With all family
gatherings taking place in the new grandparent's home, the small outdated rooms
did not lend to the closeness that they hoped to accomplish. The "dream" was to
have plenty of room in one large central area for visiting and eating with
family, friends, and bible studies.
Starting with the existing floor plan the
new design opened up the small galley kitchen in three different directions: the
dining-living rooms, the family room, and the former breakfast-sewing areas.
This was accomplished by removing load bearing walls, installing a new recessed
beam, demolishing half walls, old dark cabinetry, and windows into the sunroom.
The remodel solution included a mixture of
wood and white cabinetry, some with glass and special lighting to display
collectable dishes and tea pots. Pendant lighting was installed over the new
gathering/eating island area with a solid surface countertop. The cooks' working
area was expanded and upgraded with some new amenities. The flooring consists of
a combination of ceramic tile and carpeting.
As can be seen from the before and after
photos, the grandkids, parents, and many friends will enjoy their way "over the
hills and through the woods to grandma's house." Many wonderful times will be
shared in the "dream" remodel project.
